Treasurer

As treasurer you will apply your financial skills to ensure excellent financial governance, working effectively with the Board of trustees and the staff team.

  • Ability to fulfill a governance role, specifically to manage risks, ensure oversight and strategic development of the Community Land Trust
  • Experience of Xero or similar accounting software packages

Role Description

  • Guiding and advising the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements
  • Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
  • Advising on the financial implications of strategic plans and key assumptions in the operational plan and annual budget
  • Monitoring our income and expenditure position, and presenting reports to the Board at least quarterly
  • Ensuring that full financial records are kept for all transactions, and that proper financial procedures and controls are in place
  • Ensuring that accounts are prepared at year-end in compliance with the SORP Accounting for Charities and making arrangements for them to be audited or independently examined, as required
  • Presenting the accounts at the AGM and drawing attention to important points in an accessible way
  • Contributing to setting policy and strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance and ensuring effective oversight of activities
  • Maintaining confidentiality about any sensitive or confidential information received

Legal and Governance Specialist

We seek a specialist who will guide and advise the Board on its responsibility as a community benefit society regulated by the FCA. We are looking for someone with Board and governance experience for this role.

  • An understanding of the requirements of relevant legislation
  • Extensive not for profit experience as a staff member, trustee or consultant
  • Legal or compliance qualifications or experience

Role Description

  • Provide scrutiny over our strategic plans with regard to our stated objects and regulatory responsibilities
  • Working with the company secretary to ensure our governance commitments are met
  • Presenting information on governance and legal issues to the Board
  • Contribute to setting policy and strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance
  • Ensuring effective oversight of the our activities
  • Maintaining confidentiality about any sensitive or confidential information received

Grant Making and Fundraising Specialist

Heart of Hastings have been successful in attracting significant grant income. Most recently we have secured £2 million grant to develop the area known as Trinity Triangle in central Hastings. As part of this programme we will be making grants to other organisations. We are looking for a trustee with experience of grant making and fundraising to support this work.

  • Experience of grant making
  • Fundraising experience, including traditional grant applications and community funding initiatives such as crowdfunder
  • Knowledge and experience of Hastings voluntary sector

Role Description

  • Contribute to setting policy and strategic direction, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance and ensuring effective oversight of activities
  • Maintain confidentiality about any sensitive or confidential information received
  • Provide strategic oversight, advice and support to the staff team responsible for the operational aspects of fundraising and grant making
  • Monitor and evaluate the grant programme at a governance level, and report back to the Board
  • Oversee the administration and process’s deployed for, and on, behalf of the Board.
  • Work alongside partners and the community to help ensure grants achieve the optimum outcome

Community Trustee

Heart of Hastings values lived experience and would like to recruit at least one Board member who has never been a trustee before. You might be any age, with any level of education, and you will have a passion for Hastings and for community.

Role Description

  • Participating at Board meetings with a particular commitment to championing community issues around poor housing, low wages and lack of opportunity (these need not be your own experiences)
  • Attending and Contributing to our Annual General Meeting (AGM)
